Cohesity Acquires Veritas to Become World’s Largest Data Protection Provider

Cohesity Veritas data security

Cohesity recently completed the acquisition of Veritas’ enterprise data protection business, and in doing so, solidified its status as the largest data protection software provider in the world. The combined entity now serves more than 12,000 customers, including 85% of Fortune 100 companies and nearly 70% of the Global 500.

With annual revenues exceeding $1.7 billion, including annual recurring revenue (ARR) of $1.5 billion, Cohesity now strengthens its position as a dominant player in the data security and management industry, aiming to deliver an integrated, scalable, and cyber-resilient approach to enterprise data protection.

“The global data protection and management segment is expanding rapidly due to the increasing need to secure large amounts of data, the rising threat of cyberattacks, stringent regulatory requirements, the proliferation of remote workers, and the widespread adoption of cloud services,” said Robert Kramer, Vice President and Principal Analyst at Moor Insights & Strategy and author of a research paper on the Cohesity-Veritas deal. “With this acquisition, Cohesity helps organizations get a handle on their enterprise data – and aims to improve their cyber and business resiliency – with its data security and management platform.”

The Synergies at Play

Veritas has long been a leader in enterprise data protection, serving a global clientele with comprehensive backup, recovery, and cyber resilience solutions. Cohesity is a cybersecurity and data protection leader specializing in AI-powered data security, management, and recovery solutions to safeguard businesses from ransomware and cyber threats.

By combining forces, Cohesity and Veritas bring together complementary technologies, enhancing their ability to provide modern, AI-driven data security, recovery, and management capabilities.

This strategic alignment enables Cohesity to offer a more comprehensive suite of solutions that address critical enterprise challenges, including ransomware defense, multi-cloud data protection, and regulatory compliance.

Sanjay Poonen, CEO and President of Cohesity, shed more light on the synergies between the two organizations. “Cohesity and Veritas are both innovative leaders in securing data, and that’s why this business combination is a win for the thousands of global organizations who rely on our platforms. This collaboration underscores our focus on profitable growth to drive innovation, consolidate our leadership in the market, and deliver unparalleled value to our customers and partners. We’re excited about the possibilities and transformative impact this combination unlocks for those we serve.”

Benefits of the Acquisition

While specific financial terms were not disclosed in the press release, the acquisition significantly expands Cohesity’s market reach and customer base by incorporating Veritas’ extensive enterprise portfolio.

The combination of Cohesity with Veritas’ data protection business is expected to provide many new benefits, including:

  • Unmatched innovation and a focus on new capabilities: The newly combined company will offer AI-powered data security, cloud-scale management, and generative AI-driven insights. With a broad multi-cloud data protection portfolio, Cohesity is now capable of supporting the widest range of workloads in a highly scalable, modern architecture.
  • Peace of mind for current customer investments: Cohesity will continue to develop and enhance all existing solutions from both companies, ensuring long-term support and innovation for its own product suite as well as Veritas offerings.
  • Cutting-edge AI capabilities: Innovative AI capabilities will give Cohesity’s customers a wide range of benefits related to data management, protection, and resiliency. “AI and machine learning have been built into Cohesity’s platform from the start to help detect threats, classify large data blocks, and protect critical data and workflows,” explained Kramer.
  • Global reach and superior support: With an industry-leading Net Promoter Score and a globally integrated support network, Cohesity now offers 24/7 customer success coverage, ensuring enterprises receive seamless, high-quality assistance whenever needed.
  • A stronger partner ecosystem: The combined company boasts one of the most extensive partner networks in the industry, spanning cloud providers, cybersecurity firms, VARs, system integrators, MSPs, distributors, and hardware OEMs.

By combining forces with Veritas, Cohesity will not only expand its data protection capabilities and global reach but will also reinforce its commitment to AI-driven security and a zero-trust architecture to combat evolving cyber threats.

The Role of AI and Zero Trust in Cohesity’s Strategy

AI and zero-trust security are key parts of Cohesity’s strategy, especially following its acquisition of Veritas’ enterprise data protection business. With backing from NVIDIA, Cohesity is leveraging AI to enhance threat detection, automate data recovery, and optimize security operations. AI-driven insights can help organizations proactively defend against cyber threats, including ransomware while improving data management efficiency.

Jensen Huang, Founder and CEO, NVIDIA, commented, “We want to congratulate Cohesity on completing the Veritas acquisition. NVIDIA is excited to partner with Cohesity as they build their GenAI products on top of the NVIDIA AI Enterprise. Cohesity is backing up and protecting the world’s data – a goldmine of business value that customers can unlock with GenAI.”

Meanwhile, zero-trust principles – such as continuous authentication, least privilege access, and strict segmentation – reinforce Cohesity’s cybersecurity resilience. By integrating AI-powered intelligence with a zero-trust framework, Cohesity aims to provide enterprises with a more proactive, adaptive, and secure approach to modern data protection and cyber recovery.

Cohesity’s Future Outlook

This acquisition has Cohesity poised for significant innovation and market expansion. Yet, at the same time, integrating Veritas’ operations presents challenges, especially related to aligning product roadmaps, unifying support structures, and streamlining go-to-market strategies. Successfully merging these assets will be critical to maintaining customer trust and operational efficiency.

Looking ahead, Cohesity aims to shape the future of data protection by delivering more autonomous, scalable, and cyber-resilient solutions to address evolving threats such as ransomware as well as increasingly stringent regulatory requirements. As enterprises continue to prioritize data security and recovery, Cohesity’s expanded capabilities will allow it to set new industry standards and reinforce its role as a leader in next-generation data management and protection.
