Security Engineering Manager

Manages Blend's security engineering team, which is responsible for the security of the mortgage and banking software company's product, platform and software development lifecycle. The manager runs the team's daily operations and shapes its roadmap, hiring and technical delivery, working closely with the rest of security and with product, platform and infrastructure teams.

Alongside coaching and growing the team, the manager directs Blend's red teaming and makes sure adversarial testing becomes part of the development pipeline. The role stays technical: scoping and carrying out web application penetration tests and threat models, building security frameworks and tooling for the wider organisation, and using SAST and DAST results to cut real risk. The manager also helps define Blend's approach to AI security, assessing the risks of LLM-backed features, agentic systems and MCP servers and setting review patterns and guardrails that let engineers keep shipping safely.

The company wants proven management ability together with hands-on web application penetration testing using Burp Suite, OWASP ZAP or similar, the ability to string findings into a clear threat narrative that gets engineers moving, secure coding in TypeScript, JavaScript and Go, strong Linux skills and STRIDE threat modelling. Experience in financial services or another regulated industry, and comfort weighing compliance obligations against business goals, is a plus.
