Software Engineering Manager, Network Security

Anthropic  ·  San Francisco, CA | New York City, NY

About the role

Leads Anthropic's Network Security team, which secures the company's networks across its cloud providers and its bare-metal AI data centers. The team controls what traffic enters and leaves each environment, how environments are segmented and privately linked, and how data is encrypted on the wire, and it writes the software that rolls out, enforces and watches those controls to protect model weights, customer data and internal systems. The team will grow as new sites and regions come online.

The manager sets the team's charter, practices and priorities and owns the network security roadmap, which starts with threat models covering everything from management networks to Kubernetes and cloud links, and ends with decisions on what to build. Priorities include deny-by-default traffic rules, firm separation of research, training and production, private links and mTLS-based service identity in every environment, packaged as defaults so that each new cluster, VPC or site connection starts out with correct boundaries. The role also brings security into networking and data center design early, builds monitoring of traffic, boundary drift and possible exfiltration routes, owns the evidence that controls work, and hires and develops senior security software engineers.

Anthropic wants eight or more years of front-line management, experience leading infrastructure or security engineering teams that include senior and staff engineers, and ownership of a security or infrastructure domain with accountability to executives. Hands-on network security engineering in cloud or on-prem environments, threat modelling for networked systems, and securing Kubernetes networking at scale are expected. Based in San Francisco or New York.
