Staff Software Engineer (Malware Detection)

A staff engineer leading the engineering of Chainguard's malware scanning platform, which checks every package, container and AI agent skill before it reaches customers and now underpins Chainguard Libraries, Containers and Agent Skills. It is a backend and infrastructure role in a security domain rather than a research post.

The engineer owns the scanner's architecture, scale and reliability, builds the metrics and feedback loops that let Product Security ship detection changes in hours, combines static analysis with AI-assisted reasoning, builds customer APIs for findings and policy, and runs the system in production. Chainguard wants staff-level experience running production backend systems, strong Go or the ability to learn it fast, high-throughput event-driven pipelines, and a solid grasp of supply chain security, malware detection or vulnerability management.
