VP of Engineering

Nightfall AI  ·  San Francisco

About the role

Owns Nightfall AI's engineering organisation end to end as VP of Engineering, covering architecture, delivery and the operating rhythm of a team split between the Bay Area and Bangalore. Nightfall builds data loss prevention technology, and the role is a hands-on leadership seat for someone who came up through engineering.

The VP leads design and delivery of the company's software, scales the distributed organisation so the US and India sites work as one team, sets engineering processes and standards, allocates resources to hit dates and budgets, and works with the CEO and senior leaders on technology strategy and with product on roadmaps. They stay close enough to the code to review architecture and unblock hard problems, mentor engineers and shape the culture. Security sits inside the brief: building security into every stage of the development lifecycle, holding teams to secure coding and design principles such as least privilege, defence in depth and zero trust, making sure sensitive data is encrypted, tokenised or masked as needed, leading engineering's response to security incidents and following through on root-cause fixes.

Nightfall wants at least eight years in software engineering, five in leadership, a record of growing from individual contributor into leading an organisation, ideally as an early engineer at a B2B SaaS company that scaled, and experience running or partnering closely with an engineering team in India. A security, infrastructure or data-intensive background is expected, with hands-on security engineering a strong plus. The role is hybrid in the Bay Area.
