VP, Security

Engine  ·  Remote - US

About the role

Owns security at Engine end to end, covering strategy, engineering, operations and the trust posture needed for future fundraising. The VP reports to the SVP of Engineering and AI, works as a peer to senior engineering leaders, represents security to executives, the board and enterprise customers, and is remote in the US.

The programme inherited is in good shape, with clean SOC 2 and PCI audits and working AppSec, SecOps and CloudSec teams, so the brief is to build what comes next, starting with AI security. The VP stands up a new AI security team and an internal AI gateway that routes all internal AI use through one controlled path with authentication, per-tool authorisation, logging, inline DLP and model allowlisting; defines scoped, short-lived identities for agents in AWS; and hardens customer-facing AI with authenticated MCP, prompt abuse detection feeding the SIEM, output filtering and red team regression tests. The role also leads roughly ten people across AppSec and architecture, SecOps and CloudSec, plus corporate IT, driving RBAC through Okta, secrets clean-up, detection engineering on a new SIEM and identity lifecycle automation, while tightening Salesforce and contractor access, monitoring insider threats, and running customer security reviews and Series D diligence.

Engine wants 12 or more years in security, five or more leading security organisations, ideally through hypergrowth and fundraising, deep technical credibility, current conviction about AI security, a record of building functions from scratch, and comfort owning corporate IT.
