Insights into CyberEdge’s 2024 Cyberthreat Defense Report
CyberEdge’s annual Cyberthreat Defense Report (CDR) has become the standard for assessing organizations’ security posture, for gauging perceptions of IT security professionals, and for ascertaining current and planned investments in IT security infrastructure.
This 10th anniversary special edition report assesses the views of 1,200 IT security professionals representing 17 countries and 19 industries. It’s the most geographically comprehensive view of IT security perceptions in our industry. Key findings include:
- 82% of organizations suffered at least one successful cyberattack in 2023, but that’s down from 85% the previous year
- Many more cybersecurity professionals think AI will help security teams more than threat actors than believe the opposite
- Several ransomware trends have changed direction: fewer organizations were victimized in 2023, fewer paid ransoms, and fewer who paid recovered their data
- The shortage of skilled IT security personnel eased slightly, but demand significantly exceeds supply for IT security administrators, analysts, architects, and others
- Of organizations that have a board of directors, a surprising 62% have at least one board member with a cybersecurity background.
- The security technologies most frequently planned for acquisition this year include next-generation firewalls, deception solutions, bot management, and advanced security analytics
- The factors most often cited as improving the job satisfaction of security professionals are cybersecurity training and certification, increased compensation, work schedule flexibility, and job performance recognition and awards
